Basic Knowledge of Conveyor Belt

Conveyor belt, is a composite product of rubber&fiber, rubber&fiber&metal, or plastic&fabric, which is used to carry and transport materials in belt conveyor. It’s widely used to deliver various solid, powdery materials, or packed products in agriculture, industrial and mining enterprises, transportation industry, etc. It can transport with large dip angle continuously and efficiently, operate safely, use simply, maintain easily, cost cheaper, also shorten transport distance, lower project cost, save manpower and material resources.

There are many kinds of conveyor belts, they can be classified according to different use, such as common conveyor belt, flame retardant&anti-static conveyor belt, normal flame retardant conveyor belt, heat resistant conveyor belt, high-temperature resistant conveyor belt, acid-alkali resistant conveyor belt, oil resistant conveyor belt, cold resistant conveyor belt, etc.

They can be classified according to structural material, such as cotton canvas conveyor belt, nylon conveyor belt, polyester conveyor belt, steel cord conveyor belt, PVC solid-woven conveyor belt, PVG solid-woven conveyor belt, steel cable conveyor belt, etc.

They also can be classified according to product structure, such as layered conveyor belt, solid-woven conveyor belt, steel cord conveyor belt, steel cable conveyor belt, tubular conveyor belt, chevron conveyor belt, sidewall conveyor belt, etc.

we generally use an unified representation method to represent a variety of conveyor belts, shown as below:

1.layered conveyor belt, for it’s normal representation method(which is different with standard representation method, please refer to GB7984 for specification): take NN200 1000*6(6+3) as sample, NN200 shows nylon 200 type; 1000 means width of belt; 6 indicates ply number; (6+3) says 6mm thick top cover rubber and 3mm thick bottom cover rubber.

2. Steel cord conveyor belt, for it’s  normal representation method, take ST1000 H 1000 φ4.0-6.0-6.0 as example, ST1000 indicates strength specification, which means 1000N/mm; H indicates performance level of cover rubber; 1000 means width of belt, it’s unit is millimeter; φ4.0 shows diameter of steel cord, it’s unit is millimeter; 6.0-6.0 says thickness of top cover rubber and bottom cover rubber, it’s unit is millimeter.

3. Solid-woven conveyor belt, for it’s representation method, strength and width of belt are taken as showing method of PVC/PVG solid woven flame retardant conveyor belt.

Strength is classified as 680S, 800S, 1000S, 1250S, 1400S, 1600S, 1800S, 2000S, 2240S, 2500s, 2800S, 3100S and 3400S

Width of belt is 650mm, 500mm, 800mm, 1000mm, 1200mm, 1400mm, 1600mm, 1800mm, etc.

Based on regulations in our country, conveyor belts used in all coal mines must be in accordance with the relevant standards. Now conveyor belts in common use in coal mine enterprise are, PVC solid-woven flame retardant anti-static conveyor belt, PVG solid-woven flame retardant anti-static conveyor belt, steel cord flame retardant anti-static conveyor belt.

Following testing items show safety performance of conveyor belt, 1.  alcohol combustion; 2. surface resistance;3.roller friction; 4. propane combustion.
