Drum is an important component of belt conveyor, which can be divided into transmission drum and directional drum. Driving drum is the main part of power transmission, which is divided into single drum (tape wrap angle to drum is 210 ~230), double drum (wrap angle is 350) and multi drum (for high power). The directional drum is used to change the running direction of the conveyor belt or to increase the enclosure angle between the conveyor belt and the driving drum. The drum is welded together with the outer cylinder wall of the drum through the baffle at both ends of the shaft. The drum structure is shown in Fig. 3.
 
 
 
3.1 Problems
 
 
 
The cylinder body of the drum is rolled and processed by steel pipe or steel plate. Because of the large surface area of the cylinder body, it is easy to produce sticky materials and stacking materials, which causes the outer diameter of the cylinder to increase, and makes it difficult to clean up on site, which makes the belt deviate or scratch, seriously affecting the transport efficiency of the belt conveyor. When the belt conveyor is running, the sweeper often fails to operate, resulting in the belt can not completely eliminate the remaining material on the surface of the belt in the process of rotation, resulting in accumulation. The remaining material on the surface of the belt enters the driving drum or changes to the drum. The belt will be damaged by the remaining material, reducing the service life of the belt, and at the same time. These residues also damage the vulcanized rubber layer on the surface of the drum.
 
 
 
3.2 Improvement Method
 
 
 
The cylinder body is replaced by several round steel bars welded together with baffles and shafts at both ends. It can not only effectively improve the surface roughness, increase friction, but also reduce the surface area of the drum, which is not easy to adhere to materials. At the same time, it can reduce the weight of the drum and save materials and costs. Because of the gap between the round steel bars, the cylinder welded by the round steel bars is easy to cause the material to enter when it rotates. Rotary blades are installed inside the drum. When material enters, the material can be discharged from the baffle holes on both sides by rotating the blades, as shown in Figure 4.
 
 
 
4 Conclusion
 
 
 
Through the improvement of parallel idlers and drums, the belt conveyor runs smoothly and reliably, the maintenance, replacement and maintenance are more convenient, and the transportation efficiency and the service life of the belt conveyor are improved. The annual material cost can be reduced by about 20%, and the transportation cost can be reduced by about 10%.
